The indicators evaluated by Global Integrity offer the necessary support to evaluate the presence of corruption within governments in a systematic way. These indicators represent one of the best methods worldwide to provide information and detailed analysis regarding corruption, law breaking, transparency, and business environment in countries all over the world. Utilizing a network of experts and correspondents through a unique system of data compilation, Global Integrity generates accurate and prompt information that determines the potential of a country and the risk for corruption.

In order to follow up these practices, the Public Integrity Index (PII) classifies countries according to the degree of integrity perceived as existing among public officials and politicians. Moreover, this index is about systems of public integrity that citizens can count on to ensure that public officials act with honesty and they are held accountable at the moment they are not. It is through 290 indicators, grouped into 6 categories and divided in 23 sub-categories, that the PII seeks to capture the most relevant information of each country in relation to the three dimensions identified in corruption prevention:

  1. The prevalence of mechanisms for public integrity, including laws and institutions that promote accountability and limit corruption.
  2. The effectiveness of such mechanisms.
  3. Public access to the necessary information that can be used to hold public officials accountable for their actions.
